ABOUT

Ángeles Martinez holds a Master in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She is a research affliate at the Data + Feminism Lab conducting research on data collection efforts and building technologies to support civil society in monitoring gender-based violence. She is interested in the intersection of spatial planning, development and climate change to discover spatial patterns or changes in cities to inform policy solutions and optimize public services to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, and resilient.

Before joining MIT, she worked at the World Bank Group for the Global Program for Safer Schools. As a disaster risk management consultant, she has supported Latin American governments by providing technical assistance in data collection, data analytics, the design of interventions, and investment plans to make schools safer and resilient. She also worked at the Ministry of Education in Peru that was leading the development and approval of “The first National Plan for School Infrastructure” of over US$30 billion and designed a methodological framework to define criteria of prioritization for the allocation of public resources. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
